Sagle, Idaho is an unincorporated community in Idaho that offers visitors a unique blend of natural beauty, outdoor adventure, and small-town charm.

Despite its small size, Sagle is located near several major cities. Spokane, Washington, is just a two-hour drive away, while Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, is only an hour away.

This makes Sagle a realistic weekend destination for people form Spokane and CDA to escape the city for a few days and unwind in nature.

Sagle is like an extension of Sandpoint, a must-visit destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of big city life and spend some quality time in nature.

Here are 7 fun things to do in Sagle Idaho:

1. Visit Round Lake State Park

Round Lake State Park is just a couple miles southwest of Sagle on Dufort Road. It is a picturesque little lake with a couple of long wooden fishing piers that are commonly used by people including families with children.

It’s also annual fishing field trip destination for some of the West Bonner County elementary school students. Round Lake offers kind of the quintessential North Idaho experience that the locals know and enjoy. It’s quiet, part of the natural environment, and not commercialized and hyped up by people outside of the region.

Idaho residents can enter any state park for just a single $10 sticker per vehicle per year with the Idaho State Parks Passport. Out of state guests can buy the same sticker for $80, which could be significant savings if you’ve just moved here and are awaiting residency.

2. Explore the Bottle Bay Resort and Marina

Opens for the 2023 season in May.

Bottle Bay Resort and Marina is a popular destination for boaters and water sports enthusiasts. They have cabins, a marina and and restaurant. You can stay at the resort or just go for the restaurant.

Speaking of the restaurant, it’s not the cheapest around, but in my opinion you can chalk up part of the price for the amazing views of Lake Pend Oreille. Find a perfect late spring evening while the sun is out, and it is a very pleasant experience to eat dinner at Bottle Bay.

It’s a great place to spend a weekend or a few days in the middle of the week if you’re on vacation. Sandpoint is just across the long bridge and it’s a fun town to visit. The downtown area has a lot of small shops, a few art galleries, and coffee shops.

3. Visit Maker’s Long Acres Family Farm

This small family farm is a bit of a hidden gem in the Sagle area. It’s a low key experience but one that includes good human interaction and will give you a taste North Idaho.

They offer tours which are approximately one hour and you will have opportunity to play with and interact with the animals. A suggested donation of $25 is appreciated but not required. 4. Visit the Pend d’Oreille Winery

Located just a few miles from Sagle in the city of Sandpoint, the Pend d’Oreille Winery is a popular destination for wine lovers. If you’re staying at the Bottle Bay Resort, this would be a great afternoon or evening thing to do while you’re visiting.

The winery offers tastings of their award-winning wines, as well as tours of their production facilities. It’s been in Sandpoint now for almost 30 years. It was opened in 1995. In addition to just having the winery they also host events throughought the year.

The Fire Dancing in February heats up Winter Carnival, the BYOB (Blend Your Own Bistro) party is held each April to kick off the spring season, and perhaps the highlight of the year is the Harvest Party in September.

6. Camp at Mirror Lake

The pristine land on the north shore of Mirror Lake was never developed and still retains that secluded, wooded feel.

• 2021, the campsites were graveled and graded, each with their own picnic table and fire pit. A mulch tent pad was also added to Campsite #2. An on-site portable toilet was also installed at this time.
• 2022, 50-30-20 electric pedestals for camper use were installed in campsites #1 and #2. Also, a sand tent pad was installed in campsite #4.
• 2023 a brand-new 70′ dock will replace the shorter dock that currently sits on the lakefront.
• In 2023 or 2024, water hook-ups and a water pump will be installed.

The the beauty and wonder of Mirror Lake led to it being featured in two Hollywood movies. The first, Dante’s Peak from 1997, and the 2nd, Mel in 1998.

7. Hike the Gold Hill Trail

(5.5 mile out-and-back trail) The Gold Hill Trail is a pretty popular hiking trail in Sagle. The trail ends up with a really great view of the Lake Pend Oreille and the Long Bridge to Sandpoint. It’s a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors early on in the season while the higher altitudes are still covered in snow.
